The Fashion Marketer Making Creativity and Culture Work Together
Mellovia Sequeira
Mellovia Sequeira is an emerging fashion marketer with a passion for creativity, storytelling and making the fashion and beauty industries more inclusive. Originally from India and currently completing her MSc in International Fashion Marketing at Manchester Metropolitan University, she is building a career around a powerful belief: fashion should make people feel seen, represented and celebrated.
For Mellovia, fashion is about more than trends, products or aesthetics. It is a way of expressing identity, sharing culture and connecting people through stories that resonate with their experiences.
Her journey has already seen her develop experience across social media marketing, content creation, influencer campaigns and brand strategy, working with brands in both India and the UK. By combining creative thinking with an understanding of digital audiences, she is exploring how brands can move beyond simply selling products to building genuine relationships with the people they want to reach.
One of the highlights of her journey so far has been winning the Portal live brief competition, where she developed an award-winning social media strategy for a digital fashion studio. The achievement reflects her ability to bring together creativity, strategic thinking and an understanding of how brands can communicate effectively in an increasingly competitive digital landscape.
At the heart of Mellovia’s work is a commitment to cultural relevance and authentic representation.
Having experienced different cultural environments, she recognises the importance of campaigns that understand and celebrate the diversity of their audiences. She wants to help brands move beyond surface-level representation and create marketing that reflects the identities, experiences and perspectives of the people they serve.
For Mellovia, inclusive marketing is not simply about appearing diverse. It is about telling stories with intention, understanding different communities and ensuring that people can genuinely see themselves reflected in the brands they engage with.
Inspired by Sara Benady and the creative direction of Jacquemus, Mellovia admires how a fashion brand can grow while maintaining a distinctive identity. She is particularly drawn to the way its campaigns, fashion shows and social media presence create memorable experiences rather than simply promoting products. This balance between creative vision and strategic marketing is something she hopes to bring into her own career.
But Mellovia is also realistic about the challenges of starting out in the UK fashion industry. Building a career means developing the right connections, gaining experience, learning from established professionals and finding opportunities to turn creative ambition into meaningful work.
Rather than seeing herself as having all the answers, she approaches this stage of her journey with curiosity and a willingness to keep learning. She is keen to connect with industry professionals, gain insight into the realities of fashion marketing and discover how she can continue developing her skills and making an impact.
Her ambition is to help shape a fashion industry where creativity and culture go hand in hand, using storytelling and marketing to build stronger connections between brands and diverse audiences.
Her mindset is simple but powerful: great marketing doesn't just sell a product. It tells a story people can see themselves in.
Three Words to Describe Mellovia: Creative. Curious. Ambitious.
