About Marcus

Marcus is a former police officer from Shropshire and the founder of The Mind Mentor. After being assaulted on duty in 2016, he faced severe mental health struggles, an institutional sectioning, and clinical diagnoses. These events prompted him to challenge mainstream psychiatric labels and become a certified clinical hypnotherapist, supervisor, and mentoring psychology lead for National Mentoring Day.

The Pitch & Business Model

Marcus pitched a coaching framework designed to replace standard therapy by teaching individuals how their unique minds work to predict safety, make empowered choices, and achieve clarity. Working with diverse clients ranging from professional footballers to domestic cleaners, Marcus reported managing 11 active mentees alongside four newly onboarded clients acquired via Meta advertising and word-of-mouth referrals. He pitched investors for growth capital to expand his outreach and eventually sponsor university clinical trials.

Investor Feedback & Outcome

The investors struggled to follow Marcus's abstract pitch, noting that his presentation resembled Neuro-Linguistic Programming techniques rather than a structured commercial pitch. Ibby Aslam emphasized that Marcus lacked a concise value proposition, advising him to refine the core fundamentals: identifying the specific person, problem, pain, promise, and proof. During questioning, Marcus revealed that he held an untapped database of 4,000 email contacts within GoHighLevel, but refused to send marketing emails due to personal distaste and fear of spamming. Ibby expressed disbelief at this admission, pointing out that Marcus was sitting on significant commercial revenue that could yield strong conversion rates if managed correctly. Declaring that Marcus needed business discipline and clearer messaging, both investors declined to offer investment.
